Why Support New Orleans Green Tours?

New Orleans Green Tours provide critical information about the region's ecosystem and how it interacts with human-made environments. The tour covers four major topics: environment and ecosystems, post-disaster recovery and lessons learned, the intersectionality of culture and politics, and water and climate adaptations. The water story reaches all ages and allows all participants, regardless of experience, to think about New Orleans beyond the headlines and support the colorful story of cultural integrity, thriving, and empowerment through a simple vessel-water.

The First Tour of its Kind

There are few comprehensive discussions about how New Orleans has lived and thrived with water. Most people begin and end the story of water in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina, and sometimes touch on coastal degradation. This narrative paints a story of poor water management and leadership. However, New Orleans has had one of the most sophisticated water management systems globally since the early 20th century. Today, Southeast Louisiana suffers from rising waters, urban flooding, ecological degradation, Mississippi River pollution from industrial farming, and environmental racism perpetuated by the oil and gas industry.

The Purpose of Our Eco-Tours

Our guided group and private tours exist to educate and engage participants about the history of water and climate in Southeast Louisiana.

  • Delineate and support critical thinking about the impacts of climate change on communities in the south.

  • Discuss the future of resiliency of Southeast Louisiana and solidify New Orleans as a leader in climate action and jobs.

  • Using our membership, bring current resources and information to visitors and residents to help move progressive climate and water policies that benefit communities and the environment over private interests.

  • Provide a viable and steady income stream for The Water Collaborative to increase our advocacy efforts.
